Hi, this is Bill Kasko , President and CEO of Frontline Source Group, Inc. We are a temporary staffing and direct hire employment placement agency based in Dallas with office throughout Texas .

I remember the recession of 1980 like it was yesterday.  I was just 15 years old and my family lived right outside of Detroit .  My father, a lawyer, who worked his way through college and my mother who raised four children, said it was time to pick up and move south.  Our family relocated to a town 25 miles north of Dallas .  At the time, this small but growing town had one high school and many dirt roads with numerous farms and cattle roaming the fields.  I recall the day our parents announced that we would be moving to Plano , Texas and how odd I found the name to be.  The recession came and went and this small north Texas town of open fields grew into a hub of job growth and opportunity for some of the largest corporations in America .

My point is that this too will pass!  Today they announced the unemployment rate went to 7.6% on a national level.  I decided what they announced is that the employment rate is 92.4%….sounds much better.  When will this end? Who knows so stop pointing fingers or waiting for someone else to fix the mess and start working on your next career opportunity.  Every person out there looking for a job opportunity needs to get creative.  Networking and the internet are two very easy and quick ways to get noticed.  A recent study by Careerbuilder.com showed that only 1 in 4 job seekers go to staffing agencies for their next job opportunity.  Hello…that is only 25% of the people looking which translates into you having a huge advantage if you get your resume to employment agencies.  Have you done that yet?  Have you submitted your resume or applied to jobs posted by agencies?  Is your resume in the database for Jobing.com, Careerbuilder.com or Monster.com? Are you networking on sites like Facebook, MySpace or Jobertalk.com? If not, what are you waiting for?

On one of the cable talk shows recently someone said that this is a crazy time in the history of our country.  To me that would mean that the same old things that have worked in the past will not work this time.  Press forward and get creative in your attempts to get your resume in front of HR, hiring managers or staffing agencies.  Remember to stay positive, professional and always be looking for opportunities…they are out there!

Hi, this is Bill Kasko , President and CEO of Frontline Source Group, Inc. a temporary staffing and direct hire employment placement agency here in  Dallas . To many it is really bad!  Today the Texas Workforce Commission released the employment numbers for December 2008.  This would be the number of jobs either created or lost in the State of Texas .  Today we found out that 25,700 jobs were lost in December and that unemployment went from 5.7% to 6.0%.  This might seem like a lot to many….but is it?  The country currently has an unemployment rate of 7.0%.  Texas is one full point lower than the national average and some states are seeing even higher numbers.

So what does this mean to all of us?  I do not believe anyone expected Texas to show an increase in jobs during December.  The loss of jobs was actually lower than what we would have expected with all of the news out there about layoffs.  Think about this, if the number was expected to be higher and it is lower, we must have created some jobs during the month.

So where are the jobs if this is true?  That is the million dollar question or maybe the trillion dollar question as we watch our government try to fix the employment issue.  Here is what we do know if you are looking for work:

Network – network, network, network!  If you do not have your resume on job boards and are not using social networking sites then you are behind in the game.  Some interesting changes have taken place this time around.  Sending your resume via fax or by snail mail is not the best way to communicate.  Today we live in a world of here and now and the speed at which you submit your information is critical.  Post your resume to job boards and send it directly to employers via email.  Additionally, you need to check out and use sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Local HR sites or niche sites like Jobertalk.com to get your information out to as many people as possible.

Headhunters/Staffing Agencies – Do not be afraid of them!  We receive hundreds of calls every week from people that have been burned by agencies and headhunters.  If you pay someone a fee then you should expect results.  If you just submit a resume or apply for a position, do not expect anything.  Since most staffing agencies do not charge candidates a fee their goal is to find you a new job as soon as possible.   Remember, they work for you and are only paid if they find you a job.  Do not expect them to work miracles but the more people and companies you submit your resume to and again, network with, the greater your odds are on finding a position.

Persistence – If you are out of work then guess what, you need to be working 8 to 12 hours a day to find a new job!  If you seriously want to work then you will have to work just as hard to find that new position.  It is a full time job of submitting information, interviewing, researching and again…networking!

For some out there it is a bad market, for others it could be worse. Many in the industry will disagree with me on much of what I have discussed here today, but this is not a normal situation.  Economists say that this is a once in a lifetime downturn and we need to be creative and not follow the rules of the past.  We need to look out for each other and help each other during this difficult time.  History shows that it will come back, but this time around it is so much different than in the past.  Nothing makes sense and things are moving slow.  Stay focused, stay positive, network and communicate as much as possible.  Remember whatever you do…..do not give up.  It will get better!

Hi, this is Bill Kasko , President and CEO of Frontline Source Group, Inc. a temporary staffing and direct hire employment placement agency here in Dallas .  It is hard to believe just how many people are looking for jobs right now.  Only a few months ago the job market in Texas was so strong and positive.  Then in a matter of days, not weeks or months, we watched as it changed right before our eyes.  Don’t get me wrong, the Texas job market is still the best in the country but it has slowed down.  Everyday our offices throughout the state receive an average 100+ phone calls from people all over the country asking about the Texas market.  They see Texas , like many of the early settlers saw the United States , as the land of opportunity.  Although many of you might think it is a bad job market as you work your way through the maze of interviews and application submittals, I promise it is not as bad as other areas of the country.

Over the past few months, we have discussed ideas and ways to help you in your job search.  Today I want to stress on one item that seems to be coming up more and more….faith.  You must keep the faith that you will find something.  You must continue to work to find that new opportunity and stay positive.  Finding a new career opportunity in a tight market does not come easy nor will anyone hand it to you.  You have to ‘work’ at finding work!  Remember, this is the best country in the world and you can do and be anything you want.  Be open to any opportunities, temporary, temp to hire or direct hire positions that come along.  If you work with a staffing agency, remember that the recruiter is under a lot of stress just like you.  With only a handful of employment positions opening and closing so fast and thousands of candidates looking for jobs, it can be overwhelming trying to please everyone.  Be honest and trust people that are working to help you.
